The rough-in inspection happens after the framing is complete and the wiring is run, but before insulation and drywall cover it. The final inspection happens after all devices are installed and the addition is complete. Both must be passed before the space can be occupied.

What Electrical Work Does a Home Addition Need?

Feeder from the Main Panel
All circuits in the addition are fed from the main panel via a dedicated feeder or from a subpanel installed in or near the addition. The feeder must be appropriately sized for the total load of the addition.
Will My Existing Panel Support an Addition?
This is the most important question to answer before budgeting the addition. If your existing panel is a 100-amp service or is already near capacity, adding a bedroom, bathroom, and HVAC equipment may require a panel upgrade first.
A licensed electrician performs a load calculation that adds up your existing circuits and the new circuits required for the addition.
